In Pirke Avot, a text of pithy saying of the sages, there is a selection clarifying the character of a person based on their attitudes toward ownership. While the debate goes on, we hear God's response resounding through the Universe, that there is no legitimate human ownership of the Earth, and that the Earth is God’s living entity.
